By a decision of the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia made on May 6, 2025, the concession for the exploitation of mineral resources – gabbro – at the location near Strizhak, Jablanica mountain, near the village of Labunishta, has been unilaterally terminated.

In 2024, the small but business-strong village of Labunista once again demonstrated that entrepreneurship and ambition know no geographical bounds. Three companies from this village ranked among the leading in the Struga and Ohrid region based on annual revenue. Their business dynamism and steady growth show that Labunista is not only a cultural but also an economically strong center.

The Borovec Local Community carried out an action to clear the road leading from Labuništa to the village of Borovec. During the action, thorns and tall vegetation that obstructed movement were cut.

Residents of the village Labunishta and surrounding areas have the opportunity for an unforgettable spring journey through Bosnia and Herzegovina, departing on May 12 (Monday) at 22:00. The organizer of this trip is DOOEL “Sultan Tours,” an agency known for its spiritual-cultural tours.

Every day we talk about the beautiful – Labunista as a place of culture, tradition, hospitality. But somehow, in the mirror of reality, cracks appear more and more often. Not from time, but from stones. Stones thrown by the hands of those who should build the future – the youth.

Notice to the Residents of Labuništa

With the arrival of warmer days, residents of Labuništa have started the traditional cleaning and arranging of yards and gardens.

The shelters near Labunishki Bachila, which serve as rest and recreation spots for mountain visitors, have been found broken and destroyed.

Authorities have recently conducted intensified inspections that revealed a serious scale of illegal logging of forest resources in the country. According to publicly released information from the director of Public Enterprise National Forests, Kire Mihailov, with a cutting permit of 1,000 m³, over 10,000 m³ of wood are being harvested – indicating an alarming ratio of 9:1 favoring illegal logging.

Approximately at the location of Labunishta on Ptolemy's map (reissued in 1490) the fortress **Albanopolis** is marked; on the map by **Hassius** (1744) it is marked: **Albanopoli in ruin**. The Slovenian toponym is just an adaptation of the Greek: the second member - polis (which actually functions as a suffix) is replaced by the Slovenian suffix -ishte with a double meaning:

In the heart of Struga, over the Drim River, stood a wooden bridge with twelve arches, about fifty meters long. Exactly on it was the residence of the local aga, protected by forty-five armed guards.

Labunista, do not grieve for it, but keep it within yourself. Let your streets continue to smell of goodness. Let your people remain with hearts softened by prayers.

Every Bayram brings tears and joy to Labunishta. The roads that were once quiet now come alive with the footsteps of those who left. From Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Italy... from all corners of Europe, sons and daughters return home, where the heart never really left.

Today, in the center of Labunista, the traditional preparation of Labunista's Bachilska Halva took place, a beloved local specialty made for years following an authentic recipe.

In Labunishta, known for its tradition and religious dedication, the 29th Quran Evening will be held this year – an event that has symbolized spirituality and community for nearly three decades.
