Migrant work in Labunishta has deep roots and represents an important part of the village's history. Even in earlier times, the Orthodox population went to work in Belgrade, Kragujevac, Wallachia, Czechia, Austria, Albania, and Greece, where they most often opened kitchens and confectioneries.
Among the Muslim population, migrant work started somewhat later, around 1915. Some of the first known migrant workers include the renowned master Sinan Limanoski, Avdiraman Mustafoski, and Qerim Danoski, who worked in Prizren and Peć.
Later, the Muslim population of Labunishta also began engaging in the halva and boza craft in Albania and Greece, while they particularly stood out in masonry in Turkey.
Migrant work was not only a way to earn money but also a lifestyle through which many Labunishta families secured their future. Thus, over the years, Labunishta became known for its hardworking masters, craftsmen, and migrant workers who left their efforts in many places across the Balkans and beyond.
Even after more than 110 years, people from Labunishta still work throughout Macedonia, the Balkans, European countries, and America. They are known as some of the best masons and masters, and with their hardworking hands, many European cities and capitals are beautified. The labor, skill, and mastery of the people from Labunishta remain embedded in modern constructions worldwide.
Today, Labunishta is also known for its strong entrepreneurial spirit. Almost every family has its own family business, craft, or private activity, which speaks to the diligence and resourcefulness of the people. In addition, the village has many highly educated professionals – doctors, computer engineers, nurses, lawyers, economists, teachers, and professors – who represent Labunishta across Macedonia and the world with their knowledge and success.
