The Assembly adopted amendments to the Law on Games of Chance and Amusement Games, which stipulate that all venues where games of chance are held must be located at least 500 meters away from primary and secondary schools.

This legislative measure aims to provide greater protection for children and youth, reduce their exposure to gambling, and create a safer environment around educational institutions.

We recall that some time ago, the Local Community of Labunista organized a civic gathering where one of the main topics was precisely the issue of gambling and the immediate proximity of gambling venues to the school in our village.

At the gathering, citizens pointed out a number of negative phenomena caused by this situation, including:

• Frequent congregation of young people in the direct vicinity of the venues;
• Creation of an inappropriate environment around the school;
• Increased risk of developing gambling addiction among youth;
• Negative impact on upbringing and the educational process;
• Disruption of the sense of security among students and parents.

The adoption of this law represents a significant step towards better protection of young generations and fulfilling the long-standing demands of many citizens and local communities advocating for greater distance between educational institutions and gambling venues.

It remains for the legal amendments to be fully implemented in practice, thereby enabling a safer and healthier environment for students and the entire community.
