66 people died in a fire at a hotel in Turkey

Новости Tuesday 21.01.2025

Today, on January 21, 2025, at the Kartalkaya ski resort in northwestern Turkey, a fire broke out at the Grand Kartal hotel, killing 66 people.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. local time in the restaurant on the first floor of the twelve-story hotel. Due to the wooden facade, the fire quickly spread to other parts of the building.

At the time of the incident, the hotel was nearly fully occupied with over 230 guests because of the winter break. Two of the victims died after jumping from the hotel windows in panic.

At the scene, 30 fire trucks and 28 ambulances responded, with a total of 231 emergency service personnel. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the investigation is ongoing.

President Erdoğan declared a day of mourning in Turkey.
