Following the recent ban on mobile phones at O.U. "Murat Labunishti," a deeper question arises – is it time to introduce a dress code for students and teachers?
In many schools worldwide, and even in our country, guidelines for appropriate dress are already in place. This does not mean strict uniforms, but clear rules that would help create a more focused and disciplined learning environment.
The school should be a place where knowledge is the center of attention. If children compete in fashion, it creates unnecessary pressure and distracts from the main goal – education.
Not all parents have the same financial means, and the dress code can help avoid feelings of inequality. Instead of comparing who wears more expensive clothes, students will be seen as equals.
If we want students to respect the rules, teachers must be the first to follow them. The professional appearance of teachers creates an atmosphere of respect and seriousness in the educational process.
It is no secret that previously in Labunishta, children used to bring indoor slippers and left their sneakers outside at the school entrance. This practice not only contributed to cleaner classrooms but also to greater discipline and respect for the learning space. Today, this habit has been lost, but perhaps it is time to consider its return as part of a broader code of conduct and dress.
For students: Decent and comfortable clothing – without overly short or provocative pieces.
For teachers: Professional but comfortable style – no sportswear, t-shirts with potentially inappropriate slogans, or overly casual appearance.
Shoes in school: Considering reintroducing indoor slippers for students, which would contribute to greater hygiene and discipline.
The dress code is not a form of repression, but an effort to create an environment where students feel equal and teachers radiate authority. If we have already introduced rules for mobile phones, why not take another step towards a better school? It is time to also think about bringing back the good traditions we once practiced.
